Easy Ideas for Promoting Spelling

  • Read the words
  • Have a go writing the words on your own – on paper, on a blackboard/whiteboard.
  • Make your own have-a-go book by looking at and using the list.
  • Find and cut out the words from a magazine
  • Write or paste words in alphabetical order.
  • Rainbow Words – cut coloured letters out of magazines to make the spelling words.
  • Read words and raw pictures for the words – nouns.
  • Sort the words by theme.
  • Write the meaning for the words.
  • Make up an acrostic poem.
  • Write your words in interesting sentences.
  • How many words can you use in a sentence?
  • Write questions using your spelling words.
  • Write answers for your questions.
  • Make a chart out of all your word lists this term.
  • Play hangman.
  • Make your own find a word.
  • Have a go at typing your words on the computer.
  • Write your words on cardboard (n do this twice) and play memory or concentration.
  • Sort words into similar groups.
