Week 4 Topic Talk Assessment

We hope the children are in the process of starting their planning for the assessment topic talk for Week 4. We strongly suggest they write down their topic talk, as this assists with their confidence when presenting.

Topic: Tell the class about an old family story that has been passed down from your grandparents to your parents. Alternatively, children can talk about a childhood memory of their parents from when they were growing up e.g. how school life was different to nowadays.

Below are some example topics the children can cover in their topic talk if they wish.

-How was the clothing different in the past?

-What toys did children have in the past?

-What were the toys made of?

-What roles did men and women have in the past. E.g. women did the cooking and cleaning

-How are family sizes different to nowadays?

-What was their schooling life like in the past?

Week 1 and 2 Awards

Congratulations to the Year One award recipients for Week 1. Unfortunately we don’t have a photo for the 1B students who received the awards.

Congratulation to Lachlan, Sakura and Yuvidhu for excellent effort in skipping during PE this week. This was given to the students by the PE Teachers.

GRANDPARENTS WANTED – Week 4 or 5

As part of our History unit of work Past and Present Family life, we are learning about family life in the past and comparing it with family life in the present. If any Grandparents would like to come in and talk about life in the past or show artefacts from the past (old phone or clothes etc) or even just share their memories of what their life was like growing up.

If a Grandparent is interested in visiting Year One during Week 4 or 5 for 15-20 minutes, can you please send an email to the child’s classroom teacher and advise what day/time is best suited to the Grandparent. We can easily move our day around to suit their time as we appreciate that they are kindly taking the time to educate the children on life in the past.

If Grandparents are unable to attend school, but want to contribute their knowledge we will gladly accept videos on a USB with them talking about life in the past.

The only day we are unable to do is Tuesday due to prior commitments.

Thank you

Year One Teachers
